About this portal
Rising for more than three thousand kilometers between Tibet and the Taklamakan Desert, the Kunlun range is called by the Chinese 'the ancestral Mountain', the axis of the world in Taoist mythology. There, according to tradition, reigns Xiwangmu, the Queen Mother of the West, keeper of the peach of immortality and of the hanging gardens where heaven touches earth. Its snow-capped peaks and inaccessible valleys inspired poets and mystics as the threshold between the human and the divine. To contemplate Kunlun is to attune to the mountain that the ancients saw as the pillar sustaining the firmament.
