About this portal

West of everything, where Europe dissolves into the Atlantic, rises Skellig Michael — a pyramidal crag of stone lashed by the ocean. In the 6th century, Celtic monks climbed its 600 steps and built there a monastery of beehive-shaped stone huts dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel. It is the western tip of the legendary Michael-Apollo Axis, the ‘Sword of Light’ that crosses Europe in a straight line. Suspended between sky and sea, the crag was for centuries one of the most remote and sacred places of Christianity — a threshold where the world ends and the infinite begins.
