About this portal

Delos, a sacred island at the heart of the Cyclades, is the mythical birthplace of Apollo, god of light, prophecy and the Sun. To the ancients it was one of the holiest places in the Greek world — a land so pure that births and deaths were forbidden there. It was also the destination of the sacred offerings sent by the Hyperborean pilgrims of the far North, wrapped in wheat straw and passed from people to people down to the Aegean. Thus Delos unites the polar axis of Thule and Hyperborea to the oracle of Delphi, forming the Apollonian current of light. The Terrace of the Lions and the columns of the Temple of Apollo still hold the luminous silence of this sanctuary.
