About this portal
Baikal is the oldest and deepest lake on Earth — an ocean of crystalline fresh water holding a fifth of all the planet’s fresh water. At its heart lies Olkhon Island and Shaman Rock, one of the nine most sacred places in Asia for Buryat shamanism. It is said that the spirits of the waters dwell there, and that winter ice sings and cracks like a living voice. It is a portal of depth and clarity: an ancient mirror in which the soul of Earth contemplates itself.
