A single clap at the base of the Kukulcan staircase returns as a modulated echo that imitates the song of the quetzal — the sacred bird of the Maya. Studies using 3D modeling and frequency analysis show that the sound is not a common echo, but rather a sequence of “chirps.” Measured fact; many researchers believe it to be a deliberate acoustic design.
