About this portal
Sri Dalada Maligawa, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, in the city of Kandy, houses one of the most venerated relics in the Buddhist world: a tooth of the Buddha himself. Situated in the former royal palace complex of the Kingdom of Kandy, it is one of the most important places of worship in Theravada Buddhism. Daily ceremonies of drums and flower offerings fill the temple with devotion, and each year the Esala Perahera festival moves through the streets with ornamented elephants and dancers. It is a sanctuary where tradition, beauty, and faith intertwine.
