About this portal

Ise Jingu is the holiest sanctuary of Shinto and is revered as the 'Soul of Japan.' Dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu Omikami and the grain deity Toyouke, it houses the Sacred Mirror, one of the three Imperial Regalia. Surrounded by an ancient forest of cypresses, the complex follows the tradition of Shikinen Sengu: every twenty years the principal buildings are entirely rebuilt, a living symbol of the cycle of death and rebirth. Walking through its woodlands is an experience of purity, silence, and reconnection with nature.

Okabiki 2026: Toras Sagradas de Cipreste Iniciam Jornada ao Ise Jingu

A cerimônia Okabiki, um dos rituais mais antigos do xintoísmo, começa em 25 de julho de 2026 no Ise Jingu, no Japão. Voluntários vestidos de branco arrastam manualmente toras de cipreste sagrado (hinoki) ao longo de 65 km, da floresta de Kiso até o santuário, em preparação para a reconstrução cíclica do templo a cada 20 anos — o Shikinen Sengu. O ritual simboliza a renovação eterna da divindade Amaterasu e a transmissão viva das tradições ancestrais japonesas.
