About this portal
The Harmandir Sahib, the Golden Temple of Amritsar, is the holiest sanctuary of Sikhism and one of the most luminous places on the planet. Raised at the center of a sacred pool — the Amrit Sarovar, the 'Pool of Nectar' — the temple has four entrances, symbolizing welcome for people of all castes, creeds, and origins. It is home to the largest free community kitchen in the world, the Langar, which serves tens of thousands of meals a day in a spirit of equality. The continuous singing of the scriptures (Gurbani Kirtan) creates an atmosphere of profound peace and living devotion.
