A straight line crosses Europe like a sword of light: from the Atlantic crag of Skellig Michael in the far west to Monte Sant’Angelo in Apulia, and onward to Delphi and Delos in Greece. Along it rise the great sanctuaries dedicated to Saint Michael — the archangel who vanquished the dragon — raised upon the ancient solar temples of Apollo. It is said to follow the summer-solstice sunrise, binding mounts, islands and abbeys into a single solar current. This is the Michael-Apollo Axis, where the victory of light over shadow was inscribed into the sacred geography of the continent itself.
